SAN SALVADOR - Las máximas autoridades del Ministerio de Justicia y Seguridad de El Salvador aseguraron hoy que confían en el avance de la lucha antidelincuencial que el actual gobierno está implementando y que está teniendo una tendencia positiva.
El ministro del ramo, Manuel Melgar, dijo en conferencia de prensa que el tema delincuencial es muy complejo y que no comenzó con el nuevo gobierno sino que fue heredado. El Salvador tiene casi una década de estar situado entre los países más peligrosos del mundo y el más criminal de Latinoamérica, con una tasa de homicidios de 78 por cada 100.000 habitantes.
En su recuento, Melgar, quien estaba acompañado de más de 10 directores de la institución, apuntó que en el primer año de gobierno se desarticularon 115 bandas criminales y 203 clicas (organizaciones regionales de las pandillas violentas conocidas como "Maras").
Con una población de 5,7 millones de habitantes, en El Salvador existe más de medio millón de armas en poder de civiles, la mitad de ellas sin registro legal.
Melgar apuntó que se capturaron en el año a 61.586 personas involucradas en faltas y delitos, de las cuales más de 2.300 fueron procesadas, condenadas y guardan prisión.
Uno de los delitos más frecuentes y graves son las extorsiones. Al respecto el subdirector de la policía, Mauricio Ramírez Landaverde, dijo que hasta el mes de mayo se contabilizan unas 1.495 denuncias, lo que antes no se verificaba e implica que la población está teniendo confianza en las autoridades y ello tiende a ser más eficiente en las investigaciones.
MANIFESTACIÓN DE PAYASOS
Por otra parte, este jueves se realizó una marcha inusual, realizada por el gremio nacional de payasos, quienes en un número de casi 200 se concentraron en el parque Cuscatlán de San Salvador, en el centro de la capital, y transitaron por una céntrica avenida hasta llegar a la Plaza de El Salvador del Mundo, en la exclusiva colonia Escalón.
El sindicato de payasos se manifestó contra la violencia que vive El Salvador y también para protestar y desvincularse de un homicidio ocurrido el pasado martes en el interior de un autobús de la ruta 79. Los delincuentes efectuaron el crimen disfrazados de payasos.
Los trabajadores y empresarios de la referida ruta también protestaron y exigieron a la policía investigar el acto violento.
El promedio actual de asesinatos diarios llega a entre 11 y 13, la mayoría de ellos con armas de fuego y en zonas urbanas.
