Aunque El Salvador se quede sin dinero por las multas, el Gobierno no debe de permitir la explotación minera en el país, dijo hoy el arzobispo metropolitano José Luis Escobar Alas.
Permitir la explotación minera es poner en riesgo la vida silvestre y humana, por lo que sería un atentado, agregó.
Actualmente la empresa canadiense Pacific Rim ha demandado . en un tribunal de Estados Unidos, al Estado salvadoreño porque no le permiten la explotación minera en el departamento de Cabañas. La empresa, de socios estadounidenses, pide una indemnización de 200 millones de dólares.
Los abogados de El Salvador y los de la empresa demandante ya expusieron sus argumentos los cuales serán evaluados por el tribunal.
Para el arzobispo Escobar el país debe de hacer una defensa sólida desde el punto de vista legal, pero en todo caso, no importa si hay necesidad de pagar, pues lo trascendental es no permitir que haya explotación minera en ninguna parte del territorio nacional.

El religioso también se refirió a la violencia que azota el país, específicamente al sector transporte. Esta semana cuatro empleados del sector fueron asesinados y un microbús incendiado. Asimismo dos pasajeros fueron asesinados dentro de un microbús en Ilopango.
“Es lamentable que esto esté ocurriendo, las autoridades deben investigar a profundidad estos casos y no permitir que queden impunes”, dijo.
Asimismo señaló que hay que incrementar la seguridad para todos los sectores.
